Anyone know if wooden bass drum hoops that are flat on both sides (in lieu of one side being round) would work with a 60s Slingerland bass drum shell and claws?

It would almost certainly work, but since the claws are designed for a rounded edge, there's a fair chance they'll damage the hoop by denting or maybe even splintering the squared edges.
