I apparently have a Slingerland Artist series drum from the '60s. And everything on the drum is perfect, except the wood. What kind of shell should I look for to replace this with?

More info, please. What's the issue..is one of the toms bad ? Is it busted up...are the seams lifting....plys separating...bearing edges chewed ?
Do you have a pic of the kit...maybe with the heads off of a shell ? Are the shells thin-shell with reinforcing rings ? then it's either a mahogany/poplar/mahogany shell or a maple/poplar/maple, I would suspect.

It is cracking. It has reinforcing rings, and is just a snare.
