Slingerland Aluminum Snare-Year Changed from COB to COS? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

Sorry...meant "Festival" snare, not aluminum...dah!!!! :(

Did I get this right, the earlier Slingerland Festival snares were chrome over brass and then changed to chrome over steel?

I know it was written somewhere recently, but I can't find it....what year this change was made in the shell composition.

Thanks very much.

Festival started out as brass in 1963. Changed to steel shell during 1973-1979 according to Rob Cook.

No problem! Enjoy that Festival! I just picked up a Krupa Sound King, hope to get it this week!

Krupa Sound King is what I really want. Is that the one with the roller bridge (or something like that)? I thought I saw a Super Sound King in one of the catalogs and that is the one with this bridge. The Krupa SK has the zoomatic strainer if I'm not mistaken.

There's one on Ebay now, here's a pic. Sorry, not a good shot of the strainer:

Oooh cool! That one you pictured looks like a Super Sound King with the Dual Super Strainer. I've never seen one of those before. Those protector guards (roller bars?) were added in '73. Cool drum! I did not pick up one of those, but got the regular old Sound King with the zoomatic strainer :). Pick up that Super Sound King if you can!

Yeah, I hear ya! But, my wife is not happy with me picking up more drums, so not sure I'll get to one of those....but, who knows! Regardless, the Sound King is a nice snare!

Not sure I would want to sell my Dyna to pick up a super sound king...seems the Dyna is kind of the gold standard.

If you can, post a picture or two so I can see your new snare.Cool1
