Slingerland 80N BR Kit update!

Loading...

First, I want to thank all of you that have shown your positive support for this kit. It certainly wasn't something I needed, but wanted!

I brought the kit home yesterday and the WMP just looks stunning sitting in my living room.

While the entire kit is certainly in above average condition for a kit of about 47 years old, I've decided that I will do a complete detailing of each drum and bring it back to the condition I feel it deserves.

The BR/Artist snare drum has already been completely disassembled and being cleaned right now. The tension rods (mismatched from top/bottom) don't appear original and show rust on the lower threads. I have a complete set of period correct rods which will adorn the drum. The lug nuts were actually quite corroded and have already been cleaned and the threads chased. The Zoomatic is in great condition, but has already been cleaned of all old grease and re-lubed with modern synthetic oil and grease. Working like butta!!

I will continue my detailing and take pictures once the kit is complete.

Bottom line is that I'm glad I purchased this kit. The seller, Dan, has told me he couldn't imagine it going to a better person. Thanks, Dan!

A few needed parts have already been obtained, which will help bring the kit back to its former glory.

Again, thanks for all your support!

Now, time to get dressed and head out to see backbeatkeeper (Gary). I finally finished refurbing his Swivomatic bass drum pedal...that I've had for over a year! Sorry about that, Gary!

Mark, it had been a long time since we've seen each other and it was good to see you. That snare drum for the Slingerland kit looked great, I'm sure the rest of the kit will look just as good when you're done. Thanks for the pedal refurb too, that thing is smooth as butter!

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Stevo! Thank you! Just took some pics of the snare shell to show the fade...or lack of! Will post in a separate reply.

Gary! Yes, it has been a long time. Glad I stopped by with your pedal. Hope you have a chance to try it out on a gig. Your garage is shaping up nicely!

Well, what appears to be yellowing of the wrap just may be lighting. Took some pictures in the morning sun a few minutes ago. As you can see, the WMP looks very nice! After pulling the heads and lugs, I really expected to see lots of white. The finish looks just about even all around. In fact, it is a bit more yellow under the lugs! Regardless, the beauty of this 47 year old WMP is hard to deny. I love the chip pattern!

BTW...really DEEP snare beds!

Looks GREAT!... but here I go, and I KNOW you are cognizant of this... but for those that might not be:

Keep those drums OUT of the sun... as best you can anyway. A little exposure to take pics. etc. is no biggie of course, but otherwise... Owning ALL WMP, I learned this the HARD WAY!, especially with the older OEM WMP wraps. Here are a couple of my 1968 Slingerland Buddy Rich Artist for inspiration!

Tommyp!

Yes, I'm very cognizant about keeping them out of sunlight! As you mentioned, only outside for some quick pictures! This BR kit will be used inside only!

BTW, I always like looking at your pictures, as the wraps are always pristine and how they should look! I'm actually quite pleased with the shade of my WMP. The kit was well cared for and it shows!

Just installed my BR bass drum head and it looks great! I'll snap a few quick pictures and post them.

THANKS Mark!~ Thing is... I KNOW just how KILLER those Slingerland's are going to look when you're done with them! .. and .. how NICE that you have them as you've been after a set for a while now! For them to be 1968's is just FABULOUS! I've got pics of BR with his then NEW Slingerland's with the 8 lug Artist snare drum, which is what you have here of course! Pics will be GREAT!
