Hey,

So that no one gets the wrong impression, I love the drum. I'm very happy with the drum. I don't plan on losing this drum.

With that understanding, I have just a couple of quick questions...

I noticed the bottom lugs are spaced a bit different from the top lugs. They are further away from the bearing edge. Has anyone else seen this?

Also, there doesn't appear to be any fade. I didn't think Slingerland offered Natural Maple lacquer in 65. Am I correct? I thought it was pretty much mahogany or wrap or duco. I'm thinking refinish. Good job, though.

Off by a half inch ??

No way man......

I just measured two of my 16 inchers and they are both like picture one on both sides.

Michael, I'm going with your estimation. I have the 1965 catalog, only mahogany was the natural wood finish offered, Here's the good or the bad, If I remember your getting this to match the kit you just got, but if not this is a good re-wrap candidate or whatever!!

It might match my new oakwood kit (if the weather is hazy and overcast). No way it would match my mahogany kit.

The beauty here is this ...

I can rewrap it to match my Blue Onyx kit without any problems.

I can also try and locate a 60's Slingy 20 bass and a 12 tom (non-matching or whatever) and build a jazzer. Either way, I can make this work.

I'm thinking the blue onyx wrap job might be the way to go. Already have the 20 and 12. That would give the kit dual duty. Might be cool.

I don't know. We'll see which way the wind is blowing in another two weeks when I get back to all this.

Cool that was my thinking also, yeah this is a super useful 14" floor tom with tons of options.
