Shipping drumset to Europe?

Loading...

I've an interested buyer in Austria for one of my mid-'60s Ludwig

Downbeat kits.

Can anyone tell me best method to ship, pros v. cons etc.

I what-if'd shipping on the FedEx and UPS sites based on two 40 lb

cartons and the estimated shipping was around $800. Sound about right?

Are the Customs forms a big deal?

Any and all info is appreciated.

USPS would likely be a better bet. They have all forms and allow the buyer the option to pay the proper amount. With UPS, you pay a ridiculous "brokerage fee" for customs that is a needless cost. FedEx, not too sure how they work the customs fees, but I would check into USPS first. Avoid UPS if you can.

you may want to check

http://www.ipsparcel.com/

they can quote fedex, dhl and ups if you know the size and weight. there are size limits with the us postal service internationally that could make it hard to send a bass drum.

make sure you charge the correct amount, it's very expensive... i've found more than most european buyers are willing to actually pay.

USPS is far more reasonable than UPS or FedEx. Shipping cost with insurance is

less than $250 per carton.

I'd ship the bass drum in one carton and both toms in a second (not nested).

BTW, USPS International Carton max sizes are: length 46",

width 35", height 46" and max. length plus girth combined 108".

I've always avoided shipping to Europe because of all the forms etc., but I've

had a lot of interest in this kit from over there. That may change when the potential

buyer sees what it'll cost to get them over there.

Thanks for all the info /advice.

Shipping is not that much.I helped a member ship a Trixon "egg shape" bass drum and two toms and snare for san fran,ca to England shipping was about 300.00 for both boxes of drums.Shipped by U.S.P.S..Only two forums to full out...Mikey
