Shell I.D.?? George Way? Last viewed: 10 hours ago

Hey everyone!

Long long time since my last post on here. Hope everyone is doing well. I Have this shell that I ended up with in trades etc. I need a little help with the I.D. It is a 13" tom shell. Drilled for turret lugs, and a mount. Looks like it might be a George Way. It is very difficult to find interior pictures of any shells without paint. Edges and re-rings look like the right configuration.. Anyway. Any George way owners willing to key in here??? Thank you in advance... Exterior was covered in some kind of paper at some point, and it has never had hardware or a badge while I've had it, so that's no help really...

I can be of no help with identifying the shell but have to comment on how nice the bearing edge's and color of the wood look.

It's odd. The cut of the shell looks a lot like a George Way, but I can't find any pictures of any unpainted ones. It is drilled correctly for Turret lugs with no extra holes, and just has mount holes otherwise.

Does anyone have unpainted interior George way drums for comparison?

That is a really interesting shell. As DolFan54 said, not like any George Way shell I've seen, either. A Way shell would have had horizontal grain and only 3 or 4 plies. It also looks like your shell may have had the later Camco style tom mount on it, whereas a Way tom likely would have had a classic diamond mount, or possibly a Rogers.

Thanks for the input guys. I suppose it's possible that someone had a copy tom made at some point. I have a camco lug that fits the hole spacing properly... I was most likely going to sell this one, but didn't know what to sell it as. "mystery tom" seems about right.. Lol

I was thinking perhaps early DW. I had an '82 snare a while back which I sold on so don't have any internal shots for you to compare with. But that squared off glue-ring at least nods to proto-DW.
