I went to Fresno today to do about 45 minutes work...... a total almost 6 hour drive there and back.... So... that meant over an hour in Bentleys Drum Shop. Greatest place on the west coast. Dana Bentley is the coolest store owner I have ever met. Talked with him on the lug fix, and brought back a couple B&B lugs.... both medium, one for snare and one for floor tom. Both are broken. I am going to do the new bracket fix on both. The tom lug is completely broken out at the bottom because the top tab failed. My plan is to heat it up, bring it back together, use the fiberglass Tom suggested for that portion of the lug, and make the bracket insert. Both of these will be sent back to Dana in a couple weeks.
I absolutely love that store.
I am not sure of the termination point on the Seven Line shells, but it is somewhere about 11,000. I know low 12,000 are five ply shells.
The solid epoxy method is bullet proof. However, it is a solid lug, and while I was lucky enough on alignment to get everything straight, I do not like the tune up. I want a method that uses the original fasteners, and leaves the swivel nut fully functional. I also want one that will work for a high percentage of lugs with moderate to severe damage. And I want something that can be reasonably done by the average handy guy without paying 15 bucks a lug to do the job. I know the Petty lugs have been on the market for a while, but I seriously doubt that many have sold at the high price per lug. And quite frankly, I think the tab set up sucks major butt. Steel or Brass, I see it as a fail point, especially on tom lugs. Maybe I am wrong. But I do not see the basic design flaw as fixed, just a material change to make it better.
I am rather new to the B&B lug scene. I had no interest prior to buying 1171. I paid no attention to things with B&B lugs. That has changed.
