Seriously messed up snare beds--

Loading...

From auto.pilot

OK, not what I was expecting. Would 42 strand wires make any sense? Never used them.http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Gibraltar-14-42-Strand-Snare-Wire-SC-4471-/390656138953?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5af4eb9ec9Thanks, jim

Wide beds like those are -made to order- for a set of 42 strand snares!

I certainly learned something today.

I'll put her back together first with some standard wires, then with some 42's. I've never used them before. What can I expect? Louder? More sensitive?

Thanks

jim

Those are not messed up! I have read that these snare beds were made with the bed almost halfway around the circumference. I've tried that on two custom snares and I thought the theory of it was quite sound. The results of my snares were great! You end up without the odd loose head area at a traditional bed, and it allows the snares to contact through their entire length. You don't have to over-tighten the snares, the "curve" in the head follows the catenary curve of the snares as they hang. It is a great bed.

Well there you have it, paint it black and set her up with the clubbie kit. Hows that going by the way?

Thank you!

Hi Jim,

I should probably read all the replies, as I'm more than likely repeating something already brought up...

Good news! The snare beds aren't messed up! I've seen that before, especially at schools. They would order the snare beds cut wider for wide snares. It was kind of a poor man's Super Sensitive.

At least that's what was explained to me by my old band teacher in High School.

Like others have said, you've got to play it first.
