Selling? Maybe? What? Not?

Hi guys... Over the last couple of days i have been thinking back and forth about selling some of my vintage gear.... the reason being, well,... the first baby's on it's way and so i guess priorities change. It's not that I really HAVE to sell, but somehow my feelings tell me i should.

I have been thinking about selling my three 1920s Ludwigs (superludwig/universal/seperatetensionwood), the reason: i don't really use them. BUT: they are so great as collector's items i would feel really s**t selling them.

Also i have been thinking about selling my two Ludwig Kits (SuperClassic/Vistalite) Also because I really don't use them that much. I am working as a Pro drummer over here, and the stuff I play mostly demands more "modern" sounds... Then again, it's great to have those two vintage sounds in my library. It feels bad though because the kits sound so great, and i have been investing so much time in restorating those drums as well... also, if i sell those kits, i might just as well sell the matching snare drums as well.

I feel I am definetely not going to sell any of the more modern drums (Supras, BB...) cause i use those on a regular basis...

Has anybody else gone through this "pain"...? I really don't want to sell anything because i love all of them drums, but i feel i have to.

I am really going through the "What do i really need"-thoughts at the moment... big time.....

Sorry about bothering you with my problems, but i thought i'd share my problems with collecting as well...

Take care, Michael

Look at it this way...my dad had an old 19641/2 mustang and he sold it when I was 8. I hit 16 and I ended up really wanting a vintage 60's mustang....point I'm trying to make: What if your kid becomes a drummer?

Don't let having a kid make you feel as if you need to "squelch" YOUR passions...it's an endless road of self-sacrifice with no return that will spiral down into a sense of dissatisfaction which will bleed over into your whole life. Yes, I speak from experience, and I'd hate to see somebody else go through it. (Good thing I snapped out of it about 6 months ago.) Of course you'd give anything up for your kid, those of us with kids get that, but unless you absolutely HAVE to, you don't really have to.

It sounds as if you're passionate about the drums you've restored. Unless there's an actual GOAL with selling them (starting a college fund for your kid, if you actually need the space, etc...), then I'd weigh the benefits of getting rid of them over the regret and possible resentment you'll experience down the road. If you do choose to get rid of them, remember that you chose to do it, and nobody forced you to.

Sorry, this is all very close to home for me...

Come to the darkside, ignore the voices.

Once they are gone, well, all you will have are regrets.

Do what's best for the family...if not selling the drums can affect the family in a negative way. Sell them! If not, keep them!

are you getting any problems from the other half? if not, keep them. If so, you may have to come up with a sacrificial lamb...
