Selling all my drum sets. First up 1962 Rogers Cleaveland Londoner Last viewed: 14 minutes ago

Loading...

EDIT: I can't edit the title of this thread but it should not read 1962 Cleavland Londoner. It should read c.1965 Cleveland Holiday Drum Set

Sorry about that

This is actually kind of a sad post. I had a pretty nice collection going. Remember my snare collection? (see the pic). I am down to about 10 snare drums. And, selling a few more before I'm done.

Sold the Tama B/B kit, finally. They were OK but I just like vintage drums better than new drums.

Sold 3 of the 4 Slingerland Pop Combo kits I had.

Going to dig out my 1959 Ludwig 3 piece and sell that soon. Might sell my 63 Slingerland jazz kit. I don't know. That's my last downsize set.

Going to sell the Buzz King King Bop set. There's an unusual set. 14" kick. Beautiful 10" snare. Carry the entire kit into a gig in one trip. LOL

But now, without further ado is the outfit for today.

I just pulled this out and I need to confirm a few things (like the exact date) but it's an early 60's. First generation Beavertail lugs. 5 piece. I think it's the Londoner.

I have the matching Dynasonic snare. As I recall, it's in perfect condition with the frame and all. Going by the prices they are selling for on eBay, I may sell the snare separately.

I'll originally ask $1999 with free shipping on eBay. I am an overpacker so it usually cost me $150 to $200 to ship it. Ebay fees are another $200 so I'll net $1600. If I could net $1500 I would be happy. I think I paid $1300 with shipping when I bought it. Couple hundred dollars profit to pay for packing materials and incidentals.

I am pulling it out today to take close-up pics for eBay. I'll post some better ones later but for now, you can see the setup.

If anyone is interested in anything I posted, feel free to contact me or ask questions.

I have 5 or 6 drums on eBay right now. Is it OK to post links to my eBay auctions in the For Sale forum? I'll have to check the rules. Otherwise you can just search eBay for kapperdog and see what I have up.

Thanks again gang. Always a pleasure coming here.

Here are a couple pics I just took.

I forgot to mention that these will ship in a new set of Beato Pro 3 Soft Cases.

These pics make it look a little more silver than it is. It's actually a little more Silver/Gold. Very shiny and nice but a little patina, for sure. A little snare rash on the tom. otherwise, pretty clean.

I don't think this is a Londoner.

Cleveland shells date to about 1966 at the latest when they moved to Dayton.

First Generation Beavertail lugs would be '64 or '65

Hex Rod style tom mount is '62 to '64

The Londoner was not introduced until 1967. Even if the shells were left over from Cleveland, I don't think they would have used the old lugs or tom mount.

The way this set is put together it seems it was built pretty close to 1964.

I didn't see any other 5 piece configurations in Rob Cook's book beside the Londoner in the '67 catalog.

The Top Hat was a 5 piece but it had Bread and Butter lugs and a different tom mount.

Any comments on this? I would like to get my info straight before I put it on eBay.

As always, TIA

That silver glass set is a real stunner! A touch of ginger-ale'ing on a silver glass kit that old just adds class. I wish you the very best of luck with your sale. Hope they find a good home, excellent drum kit!

If I may ask, (and it's not too personal a question,) what's the reason for the big sell-off of your entire collection?

I am getting ready to move to warmer weather and I don't know where yet. So, I am going to travel around for a few years until I find someplace I like.

Not taking anything that won't fit in the back of my Jeep Wrangler. My dog, one suitcase and a dog dish. That's about it. LOL

I can always start over again when I get settled. Half the fun of collecting is buying new stuff. LOL

Top hat was also beavertail lugs but the top hat had two 8x12,s and the dogbone double tom mount like on your kit would be correct for a tophat someone may have just ordered it with a 9x13 instead of the other 8x12.... this is a picture of a tophat set i bought in 1965 and the second pic is the later tom mount

The hex rod tom mount really seems to eliminate a lot of the possibilities.

I would certainly be more inclined to call this a Top Hat set than a Londoner.

I know drum making in those days was not a perfect science but I doubt they would have used the Hex Rod tom mount in 1967 on any Londoner.

Still, the Top Hat in the catalogs doesn't use a center tom mounts. It's still using the individual mounts.
