Yes , easy on the threads. That white metal in the lugs and hardware can't take much abuse and there isn't much material there to upsize.
If you are going to be doing this kind of thing more than once , I would pick up a cheap set of taps and dies, in the smaller sizes, both metric and s.a.e.Chrome-vanadium steel ones are quite decent and are cheap. While they are , not great for repeated cutting of original threads, in hard steel, they are fine for cleaning up burrs ,slightly stripped areas, and most damage and they can do hundreds of threads in/on the soft metal that most of the MIJ drums came with. They are great for chasing existing threads , though , and will save you some headaches ,down the line.
Most of the MIJ drums did not use lock washers on the screws----that's why they become easily loose. It is good preventive medicine and they take up a bit of extra length.
your lugs are on the way, Phil. those ones did have lock washers.
