Rubber Protectant/Lubricator

Loading...

Please, would anyone know of a good protectant/lubracant for rubber washers and lug gaskets? I'm restoring an old piccolo and attention to the smallest details is what I try to undertake. Thank you very much.

Brian - Not sure if I'm understanding your question, but if you just want to lubricate some parts, good old WD-40 will do the trick.

Hope this helps, I'm not quite sure what you're trying to do.

Thanks, John! The rubber gaskets between the lugs and shell look quite dry as do the rubber washers between the lugs and metal t-rod washers. Just trying to keep things a bit longer in the best shape I can. Thanks again. I always appreciate your expertise.

Armor All works great. From Tires to Snare Basket Rubber Parts or vintage Front Heads. Makes the Material shiny and protected.

The original preservative for "out of sight" rubber gaskets and washers was plain old talcum powder. But there are several brands of silicon based auto products (including Armour All as DJF suggested) , which claim to preserve and will for sure add a nice sheen.

Cheers

For 100 percent rubber, Glycerin works very well. It does not contain any additives to prevent UV damage, penetrating oils or waxes that may react with the rubber. Easiest place to find it is rubber stamp section of Hobby Lobby, Micheals etc. It will be called Rubber Stamp Conditioner. You don't want the cleaner.

For synthetic rubber any of the below will be fine. If dry good chance it is real rubber.

Never had a drum with gaskets. Could you post a pic. Might be something I could reproduce if someone is not already doing so.

Thanks!

Good God! Are we still talking about drums? I've never heard of my "gasket" referred to as an "isolator". Is this the modern term for a wee wee? Just curious. Thanks for the input.
