Rubber feet for vintage flat based cymbal stands

Loading...

Hi All, my first post on here! Glad to be here with you all!

By the way, some of the guys at the Pearl Drummer's Forum sent me and told me to ask for mikey777.

I searched the forums but couldn't find anything clear in the results. Here is my question:

I'm not normally a big vintage guy (blasphemy here, I know), but I recently picked up a couple of vintage flat base "Ringo Style" cymbal stands. They are not Ludwig, they are Japanese knock offs. I cleaned them up pretty good with some 000 steel wool and they look and work fine, save for some pitting, which is common. Neither stand has the rubber feet. The legs, for lack of a better term, look like long chrome popsicle sticks/tounge depressors with a rounded end. Where would I find replacement rubber feet for these? The only ones I can seem to find are the small, round rubber feet that are made for small floor tom legs and small bass drum spurs. Is there a way of taking the round ones and then "molding" them into a flat shape, such as putting them on the stands and using clamps and/or glue to make them "flat"?

Thanks a lot for your input. I'll look forward to interacting with all of you!

Those "round" rubber feet are used as replacements, I know. I've seen quite a few flat-based stands with them on them...I don't know if that's original or not, though. I'd imagine that it isn't, because every single one of those I see is cracking or splitting.

Back in the day and I do mean the 60's I had new Ludwig stands like you are talking about and they had the round rubber feet like you mention. I also remember that the Slingerland flat base stands with aluminum "legs" had a molded rubber foot that was shaped like the leg and had a pad on the floor side of the rubber foot. Seems that Camco and Gretsch had a similar rubber foot. Help me out here you guys over 50. I'm 57 and my memory isn't what it was and my memory isn't what it was. :D

I found some flat ones somewhere, but they are rather large and have a tendancy to slide off. Don't remember where I got them. I do have to push them on every time I set up. They probably came from Drummaker or Explorers Percussion.

Get the Gibraltar floor tom feet, the small round rubber ones...they stretch over with no problem and look correct.

I've purchased the rubber feet from this ebayer on two occasions. They are the same as those that came on my original Ludwig flat base stands (cymbal, snare and hi-hat). Yes, they also work on Ludwig floor tom legs and bass drum spurs with a small washer insert that he provides.
