Hey guys I just got a brand new 14x6.5 Gretsch Gold Series Rosewood Snare. I wanted one of the Tama Limited Reissue, but couldn't find anywhere to finance one. The Gretsch has a vertical wood grain, and is a little lighter color rosewood. It's 9 ply vs Tamas 12. Also the interior is stained silver on mine.

I don't see many people using rosewood today. Is it not desirable or just not as common?

How do these stack up to the Tama, and I wonder what kind of rosewood Gretsch uses? The Gretsch is an incredible drum however, easily my favorite. I like it more than my bell brass even. Here's photos.

Well your links led me to nowhere that I could savvy...

Looked at the Gretsch video and was impressed with the drum... I have the original Tama 6.5 rosewood '84 which is my main snare.. To my ear the Gretsch is very similar in tone and potential tuning range.. It's a real nice drum..

Cheers

John
