Rogers Swivo Question

Tom mount...so, I'd like to be able to reverse the mount; i.e., put the tom arm into the bass and the bass post into the tom. This way the ball joint would be facing sideways (like a Yamaha ball-arm) rather than upwards; that would allow me to position the drum how I actually want it. Problem is the tom arm is too short for that to work.

Solutions?

There are arms that have a long piece of hex rod on both ends. Keep looking on eBay, eventually one will turn up.

You are looking for a single mount tom arm. The short ones were used with the double tom mounts.

Plus I have found that reversing the arm (at least the shorter ones) increases resonance. So I have my 12" set up standard and the 13" reversed.

Amosguy -- that's the one I have. I think what DanC suggested is along these lines: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960s-Rogers-SWIVOMATIC-TOM-HOLDER-for-BASS-DRUM-TOM-MOUNT-DRUM-SET-LOT-M800-/190997338593?pt=US_Drums&hash=item2c785419e1

That one could do it.

But the one rillow64 linked to -- man, that would totally do it! But $180 shipped? I think patience may be in order for that one...

If you look at both single tom arms being discussed (pic below), you can see that the original arm was much longer than the later arm although the hex posts stayed the same size on both versions. I don't have all the parts catalogs to say for certain when the arm went to the shorter version, but notice that the socket for the ball also went through some changes.

The listing on the longer one says 9" post and 7.5" arm. I measured the shorter version I have and that comes to 7.5" and 5" respectively.

Now the longer one would (sorta) work if it were to be flipped around; but the problem is that now there is a 9" arm going into an 8" drum. But then, the mount on the tom would keep you from going all the way in (and it's something one could simply be aware of or just mark a "do not cross" line on the arm).

But again, the one where the ball joint is facing sideways cuts right to the chase.
