Rogers Swivo Hi hat Question

Loading...

I grabbed a $50 MIJ kit this morning (mostly sparkle blue Marlin) and it came with a Rogers Swivomatic hi hat stand. It doesn't have the Rogers logo on the footplate, has a slightly different connecting rod for the footplate than my other swivo hi hat stand (straight, not curved, and bent 90 degrees downward to fit into a slot. The rod is textured (pressed) at the top 5" or so (not like my other one). What period would this be from?

Are you certain it isn't a MIJ copy of a Rogers? Given the set it came with, the slight detail differences, and the lack of a logo that might be a possibility. I know they copied the look of the swan leg cymbal stands. This looks mighty close right down to the footboard so maybe I'm wrong...but I find it tough to believe that Rogers would even cast blank footboards let alone sell HH stands with them.

That's what I thought too initially, but so many details are too close to my other swivo hi hat stand ie: adjustable tensioner underneath, the spring mechanism, butterfly tighteners go through collars, the clutch, pointy stopper mechanism. Everything looks authentique Rogers, but no logo on the footboard. Weird?

Someone else had a stand like this recently. Looked just like Rogers just no name cast into the foot board. Pretty sure the thread was posted here. I'll see if I can find it.

Glenn,

You might be thinking of the Maxiton HH I posted a picture of. Dead-ringer knockoff of the Rogers pedal (pic below). Funkypoodle's HH we're discussing in this thread must be another reverse-engineered knockoff. Note that the swan legs don't quite bend in exactly the same curve as the Rogers. I have a MIT snare stand that looks almost identical to the Rogers stand. It's pretty obvious that there's a lot of Rogers copies out there.

Some people and some companies have no shame. There was a span of several years when many of my credit-worthy customers were asked a single question on my annual visit to renew their dealer agreements. "Would you rather stock only the copies of Strats, Teles, P Basses, Jazz Basses, Jaguars, Jazzmasters, Twin Reverbs, 59 Bassman, etc. or only the REAL THINGS"? We did not care about what other product lines they carried. We did care about the copies. There were prominent paragraphs in their dealer agreements that prohibited the presence of the copies if the REAL THINGS were authorized for a dealer's store. You might be surprised at some of the answers that soon-to-be former dealers gave to that one question. The dealers who proved to be not credit-worthy went into collection status, and were not renewed. For each authorized dealer, there were at least a couple replacement accounts ready to take on the line.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
