Rogers Snare ID - please help Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hello,

(Thank you in advance for your help) I'm new here and know little to nothing about Rogers drums. My uncle passed away and no one wanted his drums so I took them thinking I would like to learn to play them. Well, turns out I haven't had the time. So, I was going to sell them, but before I sold them I wanted to get an idea of what they were worth. That's when I found that some Rogers drums are highly sought after and can be worth a lot of money. I'm sure this is not one of those drums, but I would feel like a real dope if I sold this and it turns out to be one of those that is worth something. Also, if it is worth something, I want it to go to someone who is going to appreciate it. I'm sure my uncle appreciated it so I would prefer it going to someone who does also. I took it to all my local music stores and no one knew much about Rogers drums. I've done what I can to research it, but there are so many nuances I'm stuck.

I guess my questions are what is it (ie: date, model, and anything else anyone might know about it) and how much is it worth? Once again thank you so much for taking a look.

As far as I can tell, this is a marching snare drum

I'll do my best to answer these questions, if you want any more information I would love to provide it, I'm just not sure what else is important to tell you.

1. Drum Shell Material -- Wood

2. Drum Finish -- I looked at all the finishes on the ID page here and I can't tell. Maybe it's been re-wrapped??

3. Drum Badge -- see image

3. Drum Dimensions -- 10x14

4. Interior Finish -- Natural, see image

5. Hardware Configuration -- 10 lugs on top and bottom, see image

6. Strainer Type -- Black background Dyna-sonic, no "D" under tension knob (I think) see image

7. Any defects, extra holes, finish problems, etc. -- there appears to be 3 holes above the hole where the dynasonic badge is, but they can only be seen from the inside. Also there are 4 holes that make a diamond towards the bottom that can only be seen from the inside as well. See images

The three small vertically aligned holes would have been for the dampener.

The four holes in a diamond configuration would have been for the leg rest mount.

That these holes do not go through the outside finish says this drum was re-wrapped in an oak veneer.

A nicely done job by the looks of it.

Play it, and enjoy it.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm assuming by your suggestion to play it and enjoy it its not worth much more than sentiment. Am I correct? I would love to play it, but simply don't have the time. If I am going to sell it, do you have any idea what a fair price would be? Once again, thank you!

You'll probably get different price suggestions. The extra holes and the fact that it's a rewrap will take a lot of potential buyers out of the mix. Rogers were really good drums, and this won't matter to some. I wouldn't begin to know what they're worth.

Good luck.

I wont speak to value.

However, there are no extra holes. Those are original holes. Big difference.

It is from the late Swivomatic Fullerton period.

Thank you for the information. Am I correct in that this is a marching snare? It looks a lot like a powertone marching snare I saw in a catalog, but if its a dyna-sonic it can't be a powertone also right?

This is a Dynasonic. It should have the snare frame with nylon wires, or snare frame with metal wires. The drum has ten lugs top and bottom, a Powertone would have eight.

From The Ploughman

I thought there would be holes from the hardware that replaced the original?

What replacement hardware? There are ten lugs top and bottom, original. There are a throw off and butt plate, both Rogers, both original. There is a grommet with badge, and the script logo badge, again original. What is missing are the dampener.... represented by the three small vertically alligned holes in the upper portion of the drum, and the leg rest.... represented by the four holes in a diamond shaped pattern in the lower portion of the drum. Holes only visible on the inside of a drum scream rewrap. These holes on this particular drum are original, and were intended to be there.
