Rogers Snare Drum Model ? Last viewed: 9 hours ago

Hello,

I have looked thru all the images trying to find this snare drum with no luck. I believe its a vintage early 1960s rogers parade snare drum. measures 12"x14" has the original case which had a stamp on the inside felt (hard to read) looks like joseph rogers 10x14 or 12x14 and then a number I cannot make out. I do not see any markings on the outside of the drum other than rogers on the side, and then rogers all weather and the top. Wood inside. Thanks for any help

Very cool! It appears to be from the Newport series of marching drums. Attached is a page from the 1964 catalog showing them. Hope this helps!

hello,

not sure if im measuring it wrong. can you tell me how to measure it? I do not see a 12"x14", so I am assuming I am measuring it wrong. The top head measures 14" in diameter which makes sense, but The total height of the drum is 12". Would this be a 10"x14" taking 1" off top rim and bottom rim for the sink in of the top head and bottom head?

If the head is a 14", I'm pretty confident that the shell is 10" deep. The correct way to measure a shell is with the heads removed, so you can accurately measure the depth and diameter. Most drum companies offered marching drums in both 10x14 and 12x15. I've not seen any 12x14 marching drums, but that's not to say that a shell was cut wrong? From my experience, Rogers was pretty accurate with their shell sizes. Slingerland? Well, not so much!!!

That's just the serial number. However, it does establish that it is the Newport model, as I suspected. Take off the bottom head and measure the shell from top to bottom. It should be about 10". Since you said that the heads are 14", the drum is most likely a 10x14. Let us know!

Its 10"x14" I measured like you said to. Im assuming this makes it the Newport Line Model No. 1506 (pearl in color?) with serial number 5498.
