Rogers Rim Help

Loading...

I have a 14" 6-lug Rogers Student Model snare that has single-flange rims with claws/clips but between hitting the claws (not original and kinda bulky) and the extreme depth of the rim itself I'm having some trouble getting some consistent rim shots. I bought a new 6-lug triple-flange rim and it was too wide. I was wondering if anyone knew if the Luxor Model rims would work on this snare. If so, what is the going rate on these rims and does anyone have any? If not, does anyone know any specific rims that would work? Thanks.

Here's the best picture I have of the rims. I can take a better one later if you need it.

A standard triple flange 6 hole should fit this drum.

What do you mean by "too wide?"

I bought one from the local drum shop and when I put it on 5 of the 6 lugs lined up but the 6th one was at too extreme an angle to thread in. When I tried to center it and do them all a few of them were at just a little too much of an angle to thread. It was close but not close enough.

Check the drum for square. Each lug should line up exactly opposite the other. The measurements from lug to lug should be the same around the drum. You can measure this as a straight lug to lug center measurement. You do not have to measure the round. If they arent equal, check the shell for out of round.

It sounds like that hoop was made for a drum with lugs that stick out more on the shell.

I've used generic hoops on all models of Rogers snares and never had a problem. A little rod 'splay' is not a problem, but if there is so much that the rods won't go in - that means the hoop is 'weird'.

A Student Model snare is the same shell as a Luxor or Powertone, etc. The clip hoops are on the Student drum only to lower the price: regular hoops fit with no problem.

Bring that hoop back and buy a new Gibraltar or other aftermarket hoop elsewhere.

Thanks. I returned the rim that same day. I have a buddy of mine who has a lot of old drums and parts. I think I might see if he has an old 14" 6-lugger. Maybe even one off an old Rogers to keep it in the family.
