Rogers Luxor snare

Loading...

I obtained a 6 1/2" deep Luxor snare this weekend, it needed a good cleaning and derusting which I have done and she looks great. It is an early 60's model. the problem I am having is that I get an awful after buzz from the snares, it is a 6 lug drum and I have never owned one so I would like some help on tuning the snare head to solve this problem. I noticed that the snare is wrinkled quite a lot at the snare bed, hoping someone can put me straight on this problem.

thanking you in advance

Hi Kev!

You mentioned that "the snare is wrinkled quite a lot at the snare bed". Are you saying that the snare wires are bent? Or do you mean the snare-side head itself is wrinkled? Pictures would certainly help. Still, a good place to start might be a new snare-side head and a good set of snare wires. For the head, I'd recommend a Remo Hazy Ambassador or Evans 300.

its the head thats wrinkled, its an Aquarian snare head, as for the snares I have tried 2 different types of puresound and a Pearl set. there was no snare withe the drum, they were the only original items missing it had tha original 60's heads which I have put away for safe keeping

I had a Luxor and never liked the sound. It just rattled and was so finicky I put her up for adoption.

Does this drum have bread and butter lugs? Some of the early Rogers drums have really deep snare beds, like the holiday snare drums. Tall hoops and deep snare beds were to allot for the slunk head shrinkage.

That is probably why the big snare buzz. Look how deep the beds are.
