Rogers Londoner Five value question.

Loading...

I am close to purchasing a matching five piece Rogers kit from around 1973-4. The kit is finished in the Black Strata finish. The drums also come with the original 14x5 Dynasonic. The drums are standard sizes, 22x14, 12x8, 13x9, 16x16 and are all in great shape. The only real issue is that the tom holder is not present (which is fine by me). The guy is wanting $899 which seemed reasonable until I went to ebay and noticed that the only Rogers kits that sold for that amount were the Ohio kits. The mid 70's and later Rogers were selling for next to nothing (BIG R), but the early 70's kits did not sell for much either. I went from thinking that I am getting a pretty good deal, to thinking about passing even though they are in good shape. I do not have any pictures at this point to upload. Let me know what your thoughts are on these drums and their value.

If the dyna is complete..( most are missing the underneath bridge)...that's an easy $200

I'ld go $400 on the kit...if in good shape, sounds nice and skins are good.

Another $200 for the snare..So,....$600 Max,...max..

If it came with nice cymbals...well then were talking more $$$.

You can get a decent 3p Rogers late 60s kit with a Powertone for $900 ...just about anytime.

Why are these valued so much less? Did the quality go to **** when they moved to Fullerton? I can almost understand why the Big R's don't hold value in that the wraps are typically a solid color and the hardware looks big, awkward and bulky.

These are script Rogers badges correct? A local guy has wanted $1,200 for the same drums/finish forever. Ad has been on CL since 2012. Playing the "Ringo card" and nobody's falling for it I guess. $899 doesn't seem outrageous.

I agree with larryz on this. The 1973-74 Fullerton kits are still using Swivomatic mounts and holders. Nice shells, too. The Black Strata finish is cool and not too common and will add value to the kit. If the Dynasonic is complete, and the rest of the kit in the condition stated, I feel the asking price is fair. You can always offer a lesser price and see what happens. Granted, I'd like to have the original tom holder, but they do turn up on eBay and CL from time to time.

Ok. So I just confirmed that these are definitely from the Fullerton era. The tags have serial numbers that start with 048 . . . . . which would put them in the 1971 time frame. The snare does not have the cradle part any more. As soon as I get pics, I will post and get your expert opinions.

I have the identical kit. Sounds awesome! I get nothing but compliments from fellow musicians, not only drummers and audiences alike. My tom holders are shot too so I use a Gretsch RIMS style mount which also allows the drum to resonate better than the original setup anyway.

Hope you can agree on a price so you get to enjoy the drums as much as I do!

Yes,..these are great drums..Rim mount the toms ...

But the snare missing the (cradle)....means it's just a snare..

Why don't ya go play them...Try tuning them higher and lower...

If they hold a tuning...then u know that the shells/bearing edges r sound,.

As for the asking price of $900 for the shells and half a Dynasonic...

With no hardware ..or cymbals...

I'ld be looking for $200 in cash,..hiding in the Bassdrum..!

Maybe pass on the snare..? Buy the shells for $500/?

And get a wood Powertone...?
