Rogers help needed!! Last viewed: 16 hours ago

Hi,

I found this nice looking Rogers kit for an amazing price and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.

But...

I'm a complete Rogers noob!!

Can any of you Rogers experts tell me something more about this kit??

Era? Model name? Woodconstruction? Value? etc.

I guess it's a 70's something. Londoner perhaps?

I know it'll sound good ;)

That looks like a Rogers XP8 kit, 8ply maple shells. Rogers started making XP8 in 1979, great drums but not worth a whole bunch.

Looks like a Late 70s Big R series 5p with a set of concert toms..

lots of hardware..!

Wheres the snare..! *thats really could make the difference..

After a day of cleaning and seting up..($5/600) more with a snare of course.

Maybe a pic of the paper tags inside the drum shells would help to get right to the yr...

Also, count the ply on the shells (5 or 8) ply.?

But I'm From Canada, so I'm a crazy canuck..Party

Looks to me like XP8, earlier in the series, 79-80. Eight ply all american maple shells, very modern edges. The sizes appear to be 8x8, 8x10 Concert toms, 8x12, 9x13, 16x16FT, 14x22 BD. The wrap should wear well without splits.

Sound... you will love them. The concerts could be cut and fitted with the proper Rogers profile edges by someone who is adept at that sort of thing. Hardware is readily available on the used market.

"Not worth very much" is such a relative term. Yes, you can buy these for a very modest sum. However, "not worth very much" ends right there. These can stand up with any modern expensive drums and hold their own very well. Some people have issue with the memrilock tom arms and mounts, personally, I do not. These were the very best drums you could buy at that time (1980). They were also some of the most expensive drums on the market at that time.

I have three sets of XP8 drums and I am very pleased with them all.

So, you can spend 3500.00 for Brand X Custom Drums with a clown paintjob finish and in five years regret those moments of bad judgement when they have less value than you will spend on this Rogers set that is almost 35 years old.... or you can buy the Rogers and in five years of decent care, sell them for slightly more than you paid for them.

Thanks for the great info!!

I'm picking them up like shown on the pic for $300!

Is that a steal or just a fair price??

THAT is all you get for 3 bills?

You got robbed.

It is a great score. You should not be dissatisfied. Disregard my "slightly more" to probably twice as much or better.

Its funny how mine came almost in the same sizes. I have two concert toms, 8 and 12" and 12 and 13" regular toms, 16" ft 14x22 bass. Makes me wonder if Rogers sold that setup as a kit.

Ive been wondering what to do with the concert toms. Making then into regular toms would be good but then I will have 2- 12" toms.
