Rogers Experts Need Help With Identification Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I am picking these shells up next week to begin a massive restoration. They are poorly re-wrapped Rogers shells that need pretty much everything. A previous owner also painted over the tags on the interior and only 2 could be made visible again. I am wondering with the pic of this wrecked tag and shells if anyone can get me a guestimate on the year they were made....so I can begin plotting and planning the restore! Oh yeah the Kicks are 22", Rack Tom is a 13" and the floor is 16"

Measure the lug spacing, or you could be buying a massive heart ache. Not enough information on the typed in tag.

A ten year period that used two lug styles.

Drums are definitely 60s. Most likely Cleveland. Hole Spacing would narrow to before 63... Bread and Butter Lugs... 63 and later, Beavertail Lugs.

Bread and butter lugs. = heart ache. they are drawn brass and mostly cracked. Uncracked lugs cost a lot.

Beavertails wont fit those holes.

Large Beavertail 2 5/16" Bass Drum

Small Beavertail 1 3/4" Toms, Floor Toms, Snare Drums over 6.5" deep

Small Center Lug, Double ended lug.. 1 15/16" Snare Drums 5 and 6.5 depth, Dynasonic, Tower, Luxor, Powertone.

Large Center Lug,... 3 3/16" Tower Bass Drum, Tower Tom, Center mounted double ended lug

Where are you sourcing parts from? Or do you intend to use the shells, plug the holes, and use aftermarket generic lugs?

Rogers parts are going to set you back a good bit. You would do better finding a set that is together, rather than doing a ground up restoration as your first project.

That looks like a really old Cleveland tag. The number could make them 1958? Definitely a solid tip to check the holes.

I really like doing the restorations! This will not be my first project but it will be my first of this magnitude. I have restored a 64' Downbeat kit and a few snares. I keep learning with every restoration and I think I am ready to tackle a full on restoration. I am sure I will learn a ton along the way. I have already learned a ton more about Rogers Drums in general. I have only restored 1 other Rogers (a late 60's Dynasonic) but it was my first restoration ever and the drum that got me mixed up in this whole crazy vintage drum world!
