I have had my Rogers Big R kit for the past 10 yrs. My kit consists of 22 12 13 16 finished in ebony. The tom mount and arms were always a point which some would say is ugly tubing. I have to disagree and say wake up. Rogers came through the swivo era with the best looking drums and finished up on the Big R then XP8 kits, which were some of the best sounding and looking kits at the time. If they were around today im sure they would be onto some other classy design. Rogers well in front of the rest. Well about 6 mths ago i decided to have the tom post and arms fully chromed as they were flaking, now tell me this is ugly......sean...

Some more great pics of a fab tom mount system
Nicely done. I think it is odd, and at the same time not so odd how these parts weathered the years. My set was new in 77, I bought it in 79. Just over a year ago or maybe two, I retired my double tom mount...... in favor of an NOS in the box, never been opened set up. The original went to another Big R kit I own. It is quite presentable, and in fact, in very good shape. I have seen others completely trashed, and unworthy of being used or seen.
Yours look real good.

I must get my Rogers drums pictured and on VDF. Just recently ive been restoring some star drums (pre Tama). I do agree that when you look at a Big R kit it has some bulky issues, but when you own one i personally think they are a lovely charming kit. The day will come when the value of the Big R drums go through the roof. Thanks for your comments will post serial numbers of my kit........sean

FT 16x16 D745275
TT 12x8 D753208
TT 13x9 D101896
Just wondering looking at the numbers if the 13" is from another kit not noticed before i just play em........sean
I think the 13 was built in early 1983. The rest of the drums, in 78-79

That re-chroming looks great! Just like new. Here's a question from an uninformed guy (that would be me):
I've seen a couple finishes on hardware for the 'Big R' line. One was more like a brushed aluminum, the other was chrome. Is there a time difference in there? Was the brushed stuff chromed at one time?
Thanks!

When i got the Rogers kit the chrome had suffered over the years, so re chrome is what i wanted. The brushed finish you refer to was on the tube into bass drum / tom tom. I had all that chromed. The chrome work i had was at a motorbike custom place. They chrome just about anything.

Okay, that explains it. I knew I'd seen something like that. I have had a couple things re-chromed before, and the brass plating on a lamp redone. No clue why I'd never thought to have lugs and parts re-chromed. I'll have to check into the pricing nowadays.

Some chrome issues you can rub down and buff up. The main reason i have something chromed is because the peeling chrome can cut and be nasty. What i like about some of these drums that are from the 70's etc etc is they last and clean up as good as new. Not much to say about modern stuff of today......
