Rogers 18x10?? What is this drum? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Does anyone have information on a 18x10 rogers drum shell? I'm looking at one on ebay and have never seen anything like it. It has the grey paint on the interior and re-rings on both sides, but is only drilled for 8 lugs on one side. Comment please. Thank you, Brian

Brian,

I couldn't find the Rogers 18x10 on eBay you're referring to, but usually, concert toms with large diameters and shallow shells were marching timp-toms. Check to see if there is any sign the tom had a clip mount.

Found it, thanks. Just as I thought. That's a marching timp-tom, and the circles where the two clip mounts were attached are clearly visible. It looks like it was wrapped in the school's colors. I could come up with a couple different uses for that 18x10 shell... mini bop bass drum? Gong drum?

another possible use: A very big snare.

I made a 16x6 snare drum once from an vintage Japanese floortom shell. I call it an elephant-piccolo

"Elephant-piccolo". That's funny. Sort of an oxymoron like Jumbo Shrimp.

Hope you didn't cut down a perfectly good 16x16 to make the snare. How did it sound? Bet it was LOUD.

LOL - Ok, now that 'the elephant is in the room', you have to post a picture of it!
