Ringo's kit - auction listing Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Not 100% original... and the snare is from another kit." Upon examination it was found that various hardware pieces from the kits had been misplaced or lost, so Ringo purchased period correct hardware and cymbals to make each kit a complete, authentic, stand-alone kit and to match what he used when he bought this kit on May 12, 1963, including original Ludwig vintage T-rods and Claws and a 60’s hoop with perfectly matched Oyster Black Pearl inlay. The Beatles “Drop-T” logo drum head was painstakingly re-created to look the way the original head first appeared on that historic day."

The front hoop and claws were lost when Paul used this kit to record his first solo record. As I recall there is a picture of him with the hoop and head in the background.

Maybe I'm a skeptic, but why don't I believe a word of this. Ringo's first Ludwig kit? yeah right! I own George's first guitar too! Laughing H

And the winner is....

That is quite a cool photo.

My guess, from the surroundings, is that this was taken at Drum City in London where Ringo bought his drums. Looks like the back room of a drum store and the Trixon drums (as well as a box marked "London") would suggest a European store.

My question is whether this is actually Ringo's set #3 or#4 or another set they built for display. The head looks right but of course they were the ones that got the heads painted for Ringo so they'd have access to their own perfect copies. They also were the ones doing the swivo tom holder mods for Ringo so they could have easily recreated that as well.

Of further interest is the matching canister throne and the matching Jazzfest. This is what has me questioning whether this is one of Ringo's sets waiting to be picked up or whether maybe it's a set they built to stick in the front window.

If it is one of Ringo's actual sets then he still has it now...if it isn't I wonder where it ended up? Also if it was going to ringo did he get the Canister throne and another Jazz festival along with the rest?

The auction ad is wildly inaccurate. A lot of the songs

listed there were his Premier kit, pre Ludwig.

Nobody wants hand-me-downs.flowers2

I do! Even when they're not from Ringo.

I love stuff with some history... could that be the reason why I'm here?

The incredible prices paid for anything of historical Beatles significance. $40,000 for a replica Beatles bass drum head?

Wish I still had my Beatles lunch box.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
