Rim Suggestions For an LM400
Why are you using a batter head as your reso side head? Why don't you like the triple flange rims the drum already has?
I got the drum off of CL, the hoops are dented and I'm having a heck of a time tuning it. The heads, I like the sound, I've had success with a 14 x 6.5 birch and a 14 x 5 b/o ...though I'm not unwilling to experiment. I measured it and the snare itself seems to be in round.
Just get some replacement triple flange hoops in 2.3 mm thickness. Try this head combo sometime A coated emperor on top and a Ambassador Hazy snare side head. http://www.drumfactorydirect.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6_7_8
As stated, get some 2.3mm hoops. For heads, coated Emperor or Ambassador, with a Ambassador Hazy snare side and you'll be good to go. A coated Emperor for the snare side? Can't imagine!
