Great video Steve. Gorgeous snare drum too. I've had one wood shell Aristocrat and I always remember the strainer as being the best I'd ever experienced. I must have gotten a good one from the factory or one that was in your hands at some juncture.

Thank you for the video on this much needed topic! Hopefully, when I eventually find a snare for my Camco kit, it won't have this issue, but in the meantime it certainly helps to have a better understanding of the possible problems.

The only Camco drum in my collection has the simplest throw off that is one of the most reliable to use. I can't remember if my set of Aristocrats in the mid-1960s had that round throw off housing on the matching snare drum or some other type.

The Economy strainer works! Simple is usually the best!

If my mid 60s Aristocrat snare drum did not have the round strainer housing as the one on DolFan's drum, what might have been the factory-installed strainer?

The Tuxedo strainer was used in the early 60’s. It has a trapezoid casing with Camco stamped in big letters on the front of the casing. Internally it works similar to the Aristocrat but the parts are not interchangeable. It actually works better.

Thanks, Dolfan. I think that the strainer did have that trapezoid-shaped cover plate. I don't recall ever having problems with the snare drum hardware.
