Remo Vintage A coated vs Ambassador coated

Hey everyone,

It's time to change my snare drum batter head, that now is a Vintage A coated.

Is there a lot of difference between the Vintage A coated (2-ply) and Ambassador coated for snare drum batter head?

I have read that you have more rebound on a 1-ply head than a 2-ply head, is that true?

Interesting, I always thought rebound was a result of head 'tension' not 'thickness'.

Too many great drums to list here!

I have played and own both the heads your asking about, They are brighter sounding heads than a Emperor in both the standard 2 ply and the Vintage series. in all sincerity I can't find a big difference in the standard A head and the Vintage series A head other than the vintage is 2 ply head.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I am watching this thread - as I have always wondered about these Vintage Ambassadors and would rather learn from users on here than some marketing department.

First thoughts are that it seems a bit ironic that the "Vintage" series is a two ply.....because if it were 1985 or so - we would be discussing the NEW heads that are coming out these days......2-ply! Rumor has it that some of them even have oil between the two plies! Weird!

(of course my 1985 may be inaccurate in terms of the advent of the 2-ply....and I welcome any historical corrections)

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Ambassador is more open and brings more resonant response than vintage A.

Vintage A gives warmer, more mellow sound from shell.

IIRC, Remo introduced the first Ambassador heads in the late '50s - two

ply Dupont Mylar - 7 mil combined with 3 mil.

The 'new' Vintage A heads are a reissue of 50+ year old Ambassadors.

I find the Vintage Ambassador (VA) to be somewhere between an Ambasador (A) and an Emperor (E). I like the VA or A on a snare or tom up to 16". A 16" for me can go either A, VA or E. And the 18" gets an E.

I think that the 2 ply Vintage was trying for more of a Calfskin tone.. I like them on a metal shell snare..

Cheers
