Remo suede ambassador or emperor ? Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Hey all..Just had a few questions concerning these heads from Remo..

I've always used ambassadors and emperors until their vintage A's and Emperors came out, and now i use those heads exclusively..

But i was wondering if anyone has tried the (fairly) new Suede series in both weights, and what the differences were from the Vintage series..?

Any thoughts would be appreciated..They look interesting and i was considering picking up a set for my newly restored vintage 1960-70 Pearl President drums.. So far for the kick, i've put on a Remo Powerstroke3 coated with no stripe on both sides , with an Evans EQ Pad and the sound is phenomenally warm, punchy, fat, with a nice low end thud with just enough resonance.. Now all i need to complete the warmth and punch of this kit are the tom heads.. I've put my very used vintage A's and Emps on the toms for now, but they're almost dead, seeing as how i've had them for almost a year.. Hurting

Thanks to all in advance for the replies..

Cheers !

The Suede Amby is a non-coated 1-ply head with a very open sound compared to the vintage A which is coated 2-ply. No experience with the Emperor versions.

I have the suede emporer on my Stanton Moore snare and love it. Fat and warm. Currently rehabbing a kit that has them on the batter side. Don't have Resos on them yet, but as a single head they're very controlled with very little overtone.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Suede emps on rack and Floor of premier kit. Sounds a little warmer and rounder than coated emps, though not a hoge difference.

I think suede heads in generaal work well on vintage drums.

If you are happy with the sound from Vintage A's.. then I'd just buy a new set.. I think you would be disappointed with the comparison to Suede's.. if you do wish to try the Suede's, then Ambassador would be the closest of the two to the A's..

Cheers

Thanks to everyone for their input.. I ended up going with what i always use, which was Vintage A's..Sound is wonderfully warm, punchy and very bright..Exactly what i prefer..;)
