I'm not really following the color your speaking of, but if it is painted or stained most of the time the outer ply is maple on the opposite side if it is a wrap most of the time it is mahogany outer ply.

Isn't the marble finish a wrap with Slingerlands?

I have one of those sets. I have areas where the finish has "peeled off". It's almost like a contact paper finish.

I only call it lacquar because thats what the orginal magazine ad calls it.

I have red that the older faux marble finshed Slingerland drums were painted, and the later ones were covered in a contact paper type of wrap similar to most of the faux "Knotty Pine" finished drums that were modeled after real Knotty Pine drums that were made for Gene Krupa to use in his basement with Knotty Pine paneling.

Where mine peeled it left a shiny black layer.
