That is pretty spectacular. I am going to have to go talk with Jeff's countertop fabricator as well. It would be really difficult to damage that finish which is a nice by-product. Really nice work!

My shell maker is also a countertop fabricator by trade, but he's also a drummer and put a lot of heart into these. He also tells me the first few shells weren't perfect, he had to develop the technique by trial and error. These shells are perfectly round and the seam cannot be seen at all - not something an average countertop maker has much experience in...
I had a chance to play a Corian snare made by Ford drums in the USA once, that's when I fell in love with this material for shells. It probably helped that my very first snare was an Acrolyte (hence my love of aluminium) and I'm a big fan of acrylic drums, too. Corian has a character of both, at least to my ears.

Fantastic looking drum and graphics.
My question is , how are the shells formed?
Does Corian start out as a liquid or powder? mixed with liquid resin? then poured into a mold?
I am facinated.
Does the Corian mixture work like fiberglass, with a catylist?
How may I obtain one of those shells?
Thank You, GREAT PROJECT!

Thanks to Mr. Jerry Jenkins

Thanks :) How does Corian start? You'd have to ask DuPont and I have some doubts whether they would reveal their trade secrets :) You buy it from DuPont in sheet form, 3 thickness options: 6, 12 & 18mm, and over 100 colors. It can then be heat-molded in a relatively low temperature of 150C (300F), like wood that is steam-bent into shells; but unlike wood, Corian holds its shape forever - no internal tension, hence no need for re-rings etc.
Working with Corian is not difficult, although making a PERFECT shell is harder and an average custom kitchen shop probably would have problems with that, at least not before several attempts... My shell builder's email address is mkurowski6@wp.pl (Michal Kurowski), you can drop him a line and ask for more details!
He makes both solid Corian shell and ones glued from several rings ("horizontal stave"), where the color combinations can be very interesting.
The same techniques are used by a high-end US drums manufacturer Ford. Here's a picture of a horizontal stave Ford snare from their web site:

GAJDZIN - "So far I only managed to sell some members on the idea of the Ikea display cabinet as a snare rack, but I hope to contribute more in future."
And I thank you for that...works great, looks great.
