"Rose Pearl" Slingerland Artist model Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hi, Folks

Just finished this vintage drum project. The drum started out as a basket case and was given to me by my good friend and collector, Dave Brown in hopes of making it "live again". It originally had the ultra rare Rose Pearl finish but it was pretty much destroyed beyond hope, so I painstakingly removed all the pearl remnants. I had been saving a sheet of "rose pearl" that came from a Japanese floor tom which was very similar to Slingerland's very short-lived Rose Pearl. The finish was only offered for about a year or so. I sent the shell and wrap to the great Jack Lawton and he was able to manipulate it to fit the shell. After installing all correct hardware and a Tone Flange (courtesy of Mike Curotto), this drum now has a second life.

Mark very nice indeed, the Japanese wrap looks a little darker so it looks from the pic anyway.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

And here is what authentic Rose Pearl looks like (this drum resides in the Curotto Museum, Rose Pearl Wing).

Darn it Mark! I just got a new wireless keyboard, and because of you, it's ruined!

I drooled all over it, it went 'pfffft'!

Gorgeous! Amazing work!

Thanks very much but the real credit should go to Jack Lawton for doing such a great wrapping/positioning job. Because the pearl sheet had so many drill holes, it was not easy to line up everything. Jack had to cut a "patch" about 1"x2", carefully placed below the strainer. The finish has lots of sharp geometric patterns, so the patch is really hard to notice. Of course, it's noticeable when you look for it but the position is ideal.
