So I've been pondering this for a long time. My father has an old Instanbul kzildjian thats pretty ancient. A sixteen inch. There is a G stamped on the outer edge. I understand that Krupa had GK stamped on his cymbals so I was wondering if he might have done a a simple "G' on any other known cymbals. The back history of this cymbal that we absolutely know of, is that it came with a mixed match kit in the late 50s. It was an unusual chicago black/brass chicago badge 12x22 Slingerland sound king lug bass drum with a rail consulate mount and a single cymbal mount. With clamp on spurs. All original. Never modded. A matching radio king snare. A Slingerland era Leedy, brass badge floor tom. And a gretsch, round tac badge era 9x13. All in WMP. The hardware on the kit is all chrome. The cymbal stands, bass drum muffler, and cow bell/wood block holder are all nickel, early 50s at least, slingerland. The cymbals are the k16, A set of K Zildjian hats, A 22 A zildjian, and a couple of other A zildjians that I can't remember the sizes of off hand. And one of those old black box cases with the casters. My father acquired the kit when he was a kid in like 64 or 65 from his uncle who bought it in an around 56 or 57..maybe 58. We've often wondered if this whole kit came from the Krupa ,Cole school as it was bought from a pawn shop in the same area as that school. And pawn shops were extremley popular musician dumping grounds at that time. My Father at that time was living in the queens area which is just down the street on the other side of Brooklyn. I've seen here and there pics of krupa with mixed matched drums at the school so who knows, anything is possible. On top of that, I noticed a few months ago that Steve Maxwell acquired one of cozy's kits, and it's a Leedy. From the 50s. Hmmm.....Same floor toms, just with the wing bolt adjustment where as my fathers is push button. So this has got me really thinking. At any rate, my real question is, Did Gene only do the "GK" stamp? Or was there others as well? I'm pretty sure I've seen them stamped as well as scribed.....but I'm looking for other input.
Thanks
Jason
