Question on Dayton lugs and screws Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

I'm in the middle of cleaning up a set of (new to me) Dayton era 12,13,16,22 drums. Everything looked normal so far until I noticed that the 12" tom has beavertails with felts and round head Phillips mounting srews.

All the other drums have no felts and have the 1/4" hex head screws that I'm used to seeing.

The round head screws resemble the screws on my Cleveland drums but are Phillips rather than slotted head.

Is this normal? All drums serials are 108xxx-109xxx.

Round head Phillips are most likely replacements.

Would it be normal for a Dayton lug to have felt inserts like Clevelands?

Seems odd that just one tom has them.

They used parts up until they were gone when styles changed. Not that unusual. Cleveland and Dayton were made in same warehouse. Office changed location at that point.

But as Ploughman says, don't know of any phillips screws on Rogers lugs.

Randy,

With the Dayton serial numbers you list, all your drums should have the slotted hex screws with washers. The earlier round head screws used prior to the hex would be slotted; never Phillips. The transition from the slotted round heads to the hex heads occurred sometime between Dayton serial numbers 91000 and 96000.
