I would like to know if your re-rings from the mid 1950's are clear coated or are the rings plain bare wood? My 20 inch floor tom from 1956 is clear coated maple inside along with the re-rings. What I am trying to establish is what was the general custom coming from the factory. My set came from the factory as a lacquered set. Thank you in advance. Really enjoy this forum.

Either or, I bet pinning down a date for either finish is next to impossible. Don't expect too much in the way of continuity from Slingerland, anomolies are frequent but the drums as always from that period are just fantastic.

FWIW, my '61 set has clear coated rings as do my late 60s/early 70s.
