Question about reinforcement ring specs Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Loading...

hey guys!!!

its been a while since i posted anything but here goes.

I'm currently restoring a 1970's 18" x 16" maple/poplar/maple floor tom. Only problem is - the bottom reinforcement ring is missing. The shell is still in round though, and i'm hoping to put one in.

SO! I contacted the guys at drum foundry who make reinforcement rings, and i told him that i need a replica of a ludwig reinforcement ring, but he said he'd need the specifications first.

so i'm trying to find out what the specifications on ludwig's vintage reinforcement rings are? were they plies? or just thick steamed maple? if they were plies how many plies were they? how thick where they? what was there depth/width etc.?

and are there any other people/places who make reinforcement rings?

I realise there's a lot of questions there but any information would help heaps!

THANKS GUYS!!!

If only the bottom one is missing, have you thought of measuring the top one? Both rings are identical. If you have a maple re-ring on top, then add one to the bottom. You can get dimensions by measuring the ring that remains.

Too many great drums to list here!

Yes, just look at the other rings on your kit and measure them and if they're ply count the layers. It's not rocket science.
