Question about late 70's Slingerland wrap & hoops

Loading...

Hey folks, I picked up a couple of kits at an estate auction last week and one of them looks like a late 70's early 80's Slingerland in Yellow Gloss wrap (wrap cataloged 79-86) The bass drum has matching yellow hoops. Searching old posts on this forum I read that some of the kits with solid wraps came through this way. I see one gloss yellow kit with yellow hoops in the 1979 catalog. I'm curious, are these scarce? Ive never seen one before... but I'm a Ludwig guy and don't know all the is and outs of Slingy drums.

Another interesting note... All the drums are 3 ply with re-rings except the 12" tom which is 5 ply. The Slingerland book says both shells were offered in 1979.

I'll have a better idea of condition etc after I get them apart and cleaned up... the wrap looks bright even under the layers of dirt.

Any comments/info from you Slingy experts welcomed!

I have a double bass kit in the same color, yes the color is rare red being the most rare, my kit came with both yellow and black hoops on it. and it is normal for there to be both 3 and 5 ply shells during this time.

this kit with the clear interior shells and sharp bearing edges are the best sounding wait and give them a run.

Some entrepreneurial person could make this into a Steelers kit pretty easy and market it that way. They won 4 super bowls in the 1970s... :)
