Proper material for ASBA Caroline Repair

Howdy drummers!

I have an ASBA Caroline kick pedal which is amazing, and I use it as my daily driver. At the heel end of the pedal it connects to the floorboard (really two metal rods) with some kind of material and rivets and screws -- the screws connect the material to the pedal, and it is riveted to the floorboard. I tend to be a heavy hitter and blow out rivets/fabric/leather. Does anyone have any suggestions toward making this assembly more sturdy? Authenticity/Originality is not really a huge concern, it's a player.

Mine feels like a moccasin, it's so smooth and responsive.I don't take it out because I am spooked about snapping something I can't replace.I use mine on a rehearsal kit and only take it to recording sessions.

They are a deadly pedal, but I don't know how much hard work those old fittings could take, even with a plate brazed or bracketed to the bottom.

I look forward to hearing what folks advise.

I just looked at mine.

The original rubber is reinforced and really tuff.

Have you replaced the rubber?

What material did you use?

I am thinking something from the automotive industry for a rubber replacement.

Do you have a rivet gun?

See link for the cheapest smallest peace of reinforced rubber. Don't know if it is any good.

I think the good stuff is fiberglass reinforced, but you have to buy a mile of it.

I agree something automotive strength, like the tire.

Yeah, I just looked at your pics again.

You need something much more rigid than that felt-like material.

The rivets will pull right through that stuff.

I will look around.

I would drill out the old rivet in the base piece (where the two rods come in) , replace the felt-like material with some thick leather ( from an old trouser belt or so ) . Then a new rivet through the base piece and the leather , put a washer on the rivet and "pop" the rivet . I think this is an easy solution and keeps it "period correct" .

Thanks all -- The material currently on there is a piece of leather I got from a shoemaker. The item that failed was indeed the rivet but the leather was looking a bit worn. Still looking (and using Pearl replacement pedal).
