Problem with heads fitting? Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Loading...

I am trying to put together a WFL club date kit. I have the 13" and 15" toms and im still looking for a 22" kick. I don't want to run into issues with heads fitting because I plan to wrap the kit. Do I want to avoid shells that were painted? Should I only use shells that previously had a wrap?

Thanks

Curtis

Do you have a preference for heads? If not, check out the newer Evans heads called Evans Level 360. Actually, all of the Evans heads going forward will be Level 360. They have a larger collar, so they should fit on vintage shells. I asked them if they would fit on the infamous 60's Gretsch shells and they responded that they did test the new heads on a bunch of vintage drums and were successful.

Emperors coated on top and clear Amb. on the bottom.

Emad Beater on the kick and usually a original logo head if I have my way.

Eric- painted vintage drums are the ones that sometimes, not always, but more often than not, will give you problems with heads fitting if you wrap them. Better to start with shells that were previously wrapped. Evans and Aquarian make slightly oversize heads that'll fit problem drums in any event. You can always trim the wrap a little lower at the bearing edges to accommodate heads if you do wrap a previously painted shell.

Too many great drums to list here!

Wfl and Ludwig at least were wrapped andthen formed to the same size a the unwrapped so i think i would avoid wrapping those drums. Very cool news on the Evans though i have some round badge drums that even the aquarian Amer vintage fit tight.attack heads also fit a little loser than most to fyi

You're going to run into heads not fitting at some point. Depending on the brand or hoop type there will a variation on ID (flesh hoop) vs OD (shell). You may not be able to put on heads that you love but end up going with what fits. Hope it works out for you.
