Went in to Pro Drum yesterday. Near my Mom's house.
Nice to go for a few minutes and chill out.
Bought a 1930's Walberg and Auge snare stand. Marvel model.
Some touristy dudes, nice guys, asked Stan to tell the George Harrison story.
According to Stan, and I hope he doesn't mind my sharing:
That day was kind of weird.
Credit cards had just become popular, and the shop had been tricked by a few cards.
The Owner, Bob Yeager told the guys to check all credit cards and call the bank to make sure they were good.
Sooooo... Neil Diamond comes in to buy a kit for his kid, with his credit card.
Stan follows orders and calls the bank.
Bank guy says, "You know that is THE Neil Diamond , right?"
Stan goes yeah and completes the sale.
Later that day Jim Keltner comes in with George Harrison.
Harrison buys a few odds and ends. Not much dough.
Bob Yeager, the Boss, handles the sale at the register and all the guys are just watching to see if is gonna call the bank on George.
He does not and he never bothered the guys again on credit card checks.
BTW, I think George was buying stuff for Ringo's Birthday.
Some lighted sticks and a shirt.
Thanks Pro Drum, Such a fun shop with so many cool old pics on the wall.
I bought my first real kit there in 1972.
Rogers Natural maple, Wish I had kept it. You Know
Thank you for listening. (Elvis)
