Price help please - 1967 Champagne Sparkle (Quick)

Loading...

Hi,

I am relatively new to this forum. I mainly post on drumforum.org but it is down right now. I do watch this forum and I have bought a few things from from the for-sale section.

I need help. A diamond in the rough popped up at a local music store near my house today. At least I think it might be. It's a one owner 1967 Ludwig champagne sparkle 20", 12" 14" kit. The date stamps on the interiors are Nov. 13 1967, and Nov. 14 1967 on at least the FT and bass. It comes with a 67 alloy 5x14 supra with original case, spur-lok HH stand, speed-king, and a Rogers swiv-o-matic straight stand. There is also the snare stand with original box that even includes the drum and hex keys still in plastic not opened!!! The drums are in amazing condition with some original heads. I have attached one picture and below is the listing from the music store. Also below is the link to the pictures they posted on photobucket.

While I was there at least 3 other guys showed up. I put $100 down and I have until 12pm tomorrow to decide. I know this is probably a good deal but $1600 is a lot of money and I just need some help one way or the other. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Oh, and was it standard for the tom to have smaller lugs while the FT and Bass have the large lugs?

(comes with a chrome cowbell too)...

hi and nice kit i just spent 2k on a 68 69 mint keystone badge set Hollywood and yours looks real nice id say its a little high because of the economy but give it a few years and you get your money back, hope this helps its so clean love that pink champagne back if you really like them go for them as i bought mine for sentimental reasons and it is a museum set with a 65 jazz festival snare the supra was issued with some sets out of the 67 catalog that supra is so clean it looks new its worth 300 or so i would guess

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I remember buying a silver sparkle keystone badge 4 pc used for $175 out of the newspaper as a youngster. We'll skip just how many years ago that was, but many. I think it's a bit pricey given the current economics, but from the 1 pic it does appear to be in great shape. If you really want it, you will have no regrets, until you tell your wife.

Looks beautiful. Money's made for spending. I'd rather have cool drums than money. No question about it.

Let's say it's on the high side. When are you gonna come across onother kit like that? Let's say you know a guy who got the same kit 10 years ago at a garage sale for $75. A new DW kit would cost a lot more and it wouldn't be nearly as cool. After they've moved into your living room, what they cost won't matter. They'll just be a great set of drums. Just take care of them and they're take care of you.

Overall that looks like a great deal. I have problems spending that much dough on a set but if you look at it, it has all the elements, and the Rogers swan leg cymbal stand, and condition looks very nice. If you flipped it you would not take a beating at all. If you kept it, you got a deal on a set that is rare, in a great color, and plays various music styles with ease.

Close your eyes and pull the trigger. If you pass it up you will regret it later. Believe me, I speak from experience. There is lots of stuff there, if you price it all out it's not a terrible price. DO IT!!!!
