I wasn't sure if Premier should go on this page so I hope that I do not offend. I am about to purchase this drum set but wanted to get some of your expert advice. I am not a Premier guy by any stretch of the imagination. I just did a crash course on the web, and this appears to be a Premier Soundwave drum set from around 1982. What attracted it to me was the finish. There is very limited information on these drum sets with the exception of the old catalogs. Does anyone here know if these were good kits? Where they mid line, top of the line, entry level? The shells are supposed to be birch with beech re-enforcement rings. The sizes are 22, 13, 14, 16. What is a good price for this kit? Ebay had no completed auctions on this style kit. Any info would be helpful. Thanks,
Premier Soundwave four piece
Depending on the condition, probably 500-800. I'm sure a real Premier guy will chime in, I'm just guesstimating :D
I have 2 Premier kits and love them, nice and bright birch shells.
I wonder why Premier kits do not hold up value wise. When I did my ebay sold listings search I was shocked at how low Premier drums go for. I always thought of them as being the English equivalent of Ludwig, Slingerland etc. There has to be a reason why the re-sale market is weak on these drums. This particular kit is in good/above average shape with the only blemishes being some rash on the floor tom (this is from the store's sales guy). I just love the darkish stain. I had a set of 1979 Tama Superstars that were all birch. I wonder how these will compare.
the Soundwave was mid range but really nice quality. They are very good value for money. I refurbished this kit that was in a dire state due to being stored near the beach for many years. Apart from the hoops (which I still managed to save) the rest of the kit came up like new and sounded fantastic
Just like Slingerland I have never understood the premier drums not having the resale value they deserve either??

Those look killer. How do they sound? What price point would you give the kit I am interested in?
Thanks,
They are better kits than the prices would suggest. I'd guess $300-500 over in your part of the world. Here's a shot of the inside of the FT (date stamped 1982). Prem drums look as good inside as they do on the outside IMO

Yeah $300-500 but (from experience) they may sit for a while.
Mikedolbear.com is a UK drum forum and I think read a a Premier overview article and the Soundwaves were mentioned.
