I just came to a realization a few days ago and didn't know how many other members have had this happen. When playing my beloved Tama Superstar 24" bass drum, I'd get a really annoying slapback vibration through the beater, pedal and back to my foot. This has persisted through head changes and various tunings. This past weekend I lowered the beater so it hits the bottom of the 4" Evans sticky pad instead of the center of the drum. The slapback is gone and the drum is much easier to control. I wish I'd stuck the pad off center in the first place...It is the soft version of the pad, not the Kevlar one. Is this a common problem?Burger Kin

That kind of pedal chattering can usually be fixed by venting the reso head. I never set beaters dead-center so I can't speak to that, but I imagine the vibration at the center of the head, especially a big 24" one would set up some bad vibrations for the beater. Off-center is where the sweet spot is anyway. Dead-center is just, well, dead!
Glad to hear you got the problem solved. I had that problem with a Premier kit and it wasn't until I vented the bass drum reso head that the problem stopped.
