I can still remember it like it was yesterday.... It was my birthday, June 9, 1980, I just turned the big 13 - I got home from school that day and my mom and my sister were in the living room with big smiles and they told me to go look in my bedroom - And when I first saw it, to me, it was like Neil Pert's kit, even though it was only a 3pc - I think it came from the Sears catalog - the first beat I ever learned was off the Cheap Trick Dream Police album- Need Your Love. Just curious on hearing some other stories and if you have pics, post em. If not, I would still like to hear about your first kit and the experience. Thanks, Dave

Cool you have a pic!...Wish I did of my 1948 RK SET....first real kit,anyway....

I think Neil's first kit was a Rogers...wasn't it?

My first “real” drum set was this one I bought new from a local pawn shop. (Not a very good picture – sorry.) I have no idea what the brand was, but I’m sure it was something cheap. I think I paid about $90 for the bass, tom, floor tom and snare with stand. My cousin bought the same set and we would combine them for a double bass, two up – two down set that we used to play parties.

The cymbal stands, cymbals, hi-hat stand and hats I bought separately, and still use them today!

I actually found a pic of my first snare drum, its a ludwig with bowtie lugs, aluminum shell without a center bead. It was too stuck to the photo album to remove it safely so you will have to setle for this pic. This is from around 1982 which puts me at 20 years young. That means the photo is 30 years old! So not my first kit but my second one. This was taken at a hog roast my buddy and I had. Several kegs of beer. The stereo was more of a hit than our band was,LOL! Still have the stereo but the drums, long gone dangit!

Also pictured is one of my first cabinets, with roll top door and everything.
