The listing above is a completed listing for a 1984 Tama bell bras snare drum that was recently purchased by someone I Know.

I am no expert on these things but do know a little. What catches my eye on this one is the shell was buffed inside and out to get paint off, the badge was removed (serial number 84-09880), and the rims and hardware were changed from chrome to brass-a lot of change for a Holy Grail I think.

Can someone confirm whether this is the real deal? Or when my friend comes in possession of it, what are the key things to look for to confirm the status of a real Holy Grail.

Talked to a friend of mine who is drum tech for the Chili Peppers..and he said they have been buying bell brass snares off eBay....ever since they recorded with Rick Rubin....and that's his snare of choice...

Even the guitar player bought one he said!

$6,800....they go for close to that amount?Gakk!

i would start with making sure its brass

it also seems to be missing the tapered cutaway bands leading to both bearing edges common to that era

at this point, without seeing it up close, it could be a third-party shell "polished" and drilled for Mastercraft hardware, with a badge "added" on

i suppose you could weigh it

I don't know ... that seems like a lot of dough to pay for a snare with so many potential red flags. I wish your bud much luck and sincerely hope he did well. I honestly do not know from those pics. Way too many questions.
