Please help, unknown maker, Slingerland?

Loading...

Bought this three piece kit recently (snare, bass drum, rack tom) really unusual finish. No badges or manufacturers name that I can find. Hardware looks similar to Slingerland but I am far from an expert. Any help identifying the maker and name of the finish would be greatly appreciated.

Not Slingerland. It's a MIJ kit, with a finish I've never seen before. It looks similar to contact paper designs I have seen.

The tom holder, lugs and T-Rods/Claws are identical to my Crown set, though with MIJ's that could mean any range of brand names. Ultra-cool finish!

Agree, MIJ. Wow what a weird wrap, is it the original? What do you plan to do with it? Do you like it?

It is all original according to the woman I bought it from, the kit was her first and only purchased in the early to mid 1970s. My plan is to sell the kit as that is the business I am in. Just thought I try and pick the brains of the experts on this site to get some sort of idea of what it is. Also have a rack tom not pictured.

Definitely MIJ. I generally don't see MIJ kits as money makers. They're cool if you just want to buy them and play them. They just don't seem to fetch that much... at least not around my parts. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. I'd love to know the deal on that wrap... kinda cool.

Hi, Your set is made by Pearl by the hardwear from the made 60's..The set is a un-badge set.The snare drum has hardwear like you would see on Crown drums made by Pearl, the bass drum hardwear you would see on many sets made by Pearl..Could you post a photo of the inside on the bass drum?..Also what are the lugs on the mounted tom?..I have never seen that finish on any Pearl made set it's almost looks like the main finish was W.M.P. that someone added red paint too maybe a artist??.....Mikey

I have the same snare but in red pearl. Close examination of the OP snare photo shows this pearl finish is actually a combination of white pearl chips and red pearl chips. Has anyone ever seen this finish before? Are there any other known examples of these pearl chip combinations? Very interesting and unique.

Let's just say in over 35+ years in selling vintage drums and with all i know of the 60's M.I.J. drums i have Never seen that finish on any M.I.J. drum's not even in all of the hard copy's of the catalog's i have from about all of the Pearl and Star made drum's.That's why i was thinking it was a artist painted job on these drums....Mikey
