Picked up a couple Ludwig snares Last viewed: 18 hours ago

Got two Ludwig snares from eBay, and I'm working on getting them cleaned up. The first is this:

I was not quite sure what year this is from, but hoping it is early since it does in fact have a solid shell with rerings. It's missing one tension rod and clip, and has 5 other broken clips. I've already got the parts, but saved this drum for second. When I was taking it apart, two of the lug screws snapped off, so I have to find something for those as well. See below for the second drum.

Here are the before shots of the second drum. Any guesses on what year this one could be?

And the finished drum. Was that bracket on the top hoop tension rod used for a harness strap, or something else? These are the heads that came on the drum, but I'll probably try to get some calfskin heads on them to look the part.

Very nice! Ludwig Universal model 1920's through 1930's I believe. Check the catalogs to be sure. Nice job cleaning it up.

Really beautiful. Nice job. I have a snare like the first one you have. Not sure if it is from the 20's or a Pioneer from the 40's. Mine does not have a badge but it says "Ludwig & Ludwig" on the top hoop.

How did you finish the hardware? I am refurbishing a 28 inch Ludwig & Ludwig Pioneer bass drum. I will post some pictures later.

No badge, just the Ludwig Universal stamp on the hoop.

WOW! Cool drums you've got. If you put regular snare wires on the metal drum, it will be a great sounding snare. I'm guessing that's a two-piece NOB from the way the edge flanges look. Is it 4x14 or 5x14?

Nice find! Beautiful looking old drum there. Nice job on cleanup. I love that wood shelled drum. The Ludwig hoop logo is smart. Sweet drums :)
