Pedal suggestions?

Loading...

I'm looking for some advice on a new pedal.

I'm currently playing a Gretsch Floating Action which I love... but although I'm not a heavy hitter, the spring tends to pop off at inopportune moments.

Can anyone recommend something similar in feel but maybe a bit more solid? How are the Tama-made Camco pedals? Rogers Swivo? New pedals?

(I also have a Speed king which is great, but has very different action)

Thanks.

Myself, I would like to own a Ghost. I don't own one at the present time, but in the future, I would like to purchase one. I hear that these have a great feel to them. Anyone care to comment?

I own a Camco/Tama single chain drive pedal which has fairly quick response and a decent feel to it. On my kit at the moment is a strap drive Tama pedal (80's I believe) which has lightning fast response and a superb, lightweight feel to it. I'm very impressed with it.

This is just my 2 cents.

Cheers

I think a DW strap drive 5000 would come close and still have modern features. After all, it was based on the Camco//Gretsch design.

The older single-chain DW 5000's are extremely similar to the pre-Tama Camco pedals, which in turn are nearly identical to the Gretsch Floating Action pedal.

Those old Camco pedals can be found on the cheap. My favorite pedal is an old Camco that I bought for something like $20.

Being the tinkerer that I am, I'd be inclined to fix your existing pedal. If it's not just a matter of adjustment, springs and related parts can generally be found for a few bucks each.

This is great advice, thanks.

Which Camcos models are pre- and post-Tama? The MIJ are common on ebay for around $20.

There are also a lot of older DW 5000s around, that may be the way to go. Ideally, I'll try to find a strap version.

I didn't mean to imply that the MIJ Tama Camco pedals aren't similar -- I just haven't had my hands (or feet) on one to compare.

Here's a pic of an older Camco pedal like I meant.
